Pool Care Tips

How Summer Heat Affects Your Pool Water

Hot Thousand Oaks summers are great for swimming and hard on pool chemistry. Here is what changes when temperatures climb and how to stay ahead of it.

Summer is when your pool works hardest. More swimmers, more sun and warmer water all change the chemistry faster than in cooler months. A pool that stayed clear all spring can turn cloudy in a single hot week if the routine does not keep up.

Sunlight Burns Through Chlorine

Ultraviolet light breaks down chlorine. On long, bright afternoons, an unprotected pool can lose much of its chlorine in a few hours. Stabilizer, also called cyanuric acid, shields chlorine from the sun, but it has to be kept in the right range.

Testing more often in summer, and adjusting chlorine and stabilizer together, keeps sanitizer where it needs to be. Our pool chemical balancing service handles these adjustments for you.

Warm Water Helps Algae Grow

Algae thrives in warm water. Combined with lower chlorine, a few hot days are often all it takes for a green tint to appear on the walls or in the corners.

Brushing every week, running the pump long enough each day and keeping the filter clean all help prevent a bloom. If algae does take hold, our green pool cleanup service brings the water back.

Evaporation and Mineral Buildup

Heat and dry air pull water out of the pool. As water evaporates, the minerals it carried stay behind. In the Conejo Valley, where water tends to be hard, this can raise calcium levels and leave white scale along the tile line.

Topping off the water regularly protects the pump, and keeping calcium and pH balanced slows scale. Our pool tile cleaning service removes buildup that has already formed.

A Summer Pool Care Checklist

Test often. Check chlorine and pH two or three times a week during heat waves.

Run the pump longer. Extra circulation helps the filter keep up with heavier use.

Watch the water level. Keep it near the middle of the skimmer opening.

Clean the filter. Summer debris and swimmer oils clog filters faster.

Stay on a schedule. Regular weekly pool cleaning from our mobile team keeps summer problems from building up.
